Moon ISRU Workshop

September 29-30, 2026

Workshop on Conscientious Lunar ISRU: The workshop will discuss utilizing resources on the Moon in accordance with scientific objectives, as well as coordinate activities from a German perspective – with the goal of developing common strategies and coordinated positions. Via short overviews of work being done by German institutions and industry on lunar and ISRU themes, we will define the range of German expertise to form a tighter national network and assess areas for future collaboration. The rest of the workshop will involve discussions of (1) current planetary protection policy as applicable to the Moon, (2) potential impacts of ISRU on the lunar environment, science, exploration and habitation, and (3) coordination and mitigation strategies. These discussions will be used to write a strategy document to share with policymakers.
